ナパバレー(ペジュ・ワイナリー)に行って見た

ピンクの姿をし、とんがり帽をかぶった建物がwelcome boardとともに我々を出迎えてくれた。なんて可愛らしいワイナリーに来たのだろうか。全くもってメルヘン感満載である。 おつまみや腹を充分に満たしてくれる魚や肉料理が、ワインの旨味をさらに引き立て、晴れやかな日曜日をさらに上質なものにしてくれた。     見渡す限りの葡萄畑の間を、時折吹く風や木々が触れ合う音、そしてワインで抑揚した人々の話す声が通り過ぎていく。まるで大自然の中で協奏曲を聞いているかのような気分にすらなってくる。照りつける秋の太陽は暑くはないものの、我々の頬をワインとともに赤らめた。 このまま楽団の演奏を、ほかほかの太陽の下で聞いているのも悪くはなかったが、ワイナリーに来たからには、見るもの見ようと製造工程を見学させてもらうことにした。   ペジュ・ワイナリーは1983年に設立された。ここでは有機農業をベースにし合計5品種の葡萄を栽培しているという。フランスのボルドーでも伝統的とされる品種カベルネソヴィニョン、メルロー、カベルネフラン、マルベック、プティ・ヴェルドーがそれだ。 このワイナリーの特徴は、オーガニックという以外にもある。それは、高い技術を用いた経営をしているということだ。太陽パネル720枚を設置し、ワインづくりに必要なエネルギーの40%を自社で賄っているというし、また、葡萄の木を1本ずつ管理しその品質を一定に保っているというから、また驚きだ。さすがのシリコンバレー、お膝元のなせるざわといったところだろうか。   是非上質でエコなペジュ・ワインを現地で飲んで欲しいものである。   PEJU PROVINCE WINERY 住所: 8466 St. Helena Highway, Rutherford, CA 94573 電話: 800-446-7358 時間: 10am – 6pm HP:   http://www.peju.com
