DIVING IN KUMOMI, SHIZUOKA, JAPAN

As you know, Japan is a maritime state. Four seas surround its country. Therefore, we can enjoy scuba diving, and I confirm that you can find nice diving spots here.

I sometimes go to Izu peninsula. It is located to the west of Tokyo. Because of many express trains from Tokyo, I can reach destinations without difficulties. This time I visited Kumomi, the south western part of the peninsula.

THE PLACE

In order to get this place, taking tour that diving shops offer is very comfortable. Because there are few public transportation. The geological formation of Kumomi is variety. I think for the beginners scuba diving on the interior sea is better than on the open sea. Because sometimes strong swell comes and the waves become high.

 Ushitsuki Rock
This is a main diving spot. There are crevasses, tunnels, arches, lots of holes and so on. In this place you can see the big schools of fish like Pempheridae, Parapristipoma trilineatum and so on.
You can enjoy beautiful scenery on the ground too. On a clear day you can see Mt. Fuji over this Ushitsuki rock. Ushitsuki means that a cattle arrives. It is said that his name came from the old story.

 Sankyo
Long and narrow rocks establish some waterways. Light shines through a crack and the scenery is very whimsical. You can see colorful sea slugs here.

THE STYLE OF SCUBA DIVING

Kumomi is very famous for cave diving as well. The mysterious world expands before our eyes. In order to discover this underwater scenery, you must prepare flashlight.  Getting to the diving points, you need to take boat. But not so long ride, it lasts only two to three minutes from the port. Almost all of the boat for scuba diving install the automatic  lift, so you can exit from the sea easily.

PHOTOS TO INSPIRE YOU TO VISIT KUMOMI

Honestly, this was my very first time to use Sony α NEX 6 under the water. But I believe these photos encourage you to visit this place surrounded by a lot of beautiful nature.
